Admissions

Saint Bede’s is an 11-16 co-education Roman Catholic High School under the trusteeship of the Diocese of Lancaster.  It is maintained by the Local Authority as a Voluntary Aided school. Information about applying for a place, the waiting list and appeals can be found below.

As a Voluntary Aided School, the Governing Body is the Admissions Authority and is responsible for taking decisions on applications for admissions.  The coordination of admission arrangements is undertaken by the Local Authority.  For the school’s year commencing September 2024, the Governing Body has set its admissions number at 165. The Local Authority and other parties required by law have been consulted on this. The Governors welcome applications from Roman Catholic and other parents who would like their children educated within the aims and ethos of Saint Bede’s Catholic High School.

 

Admissions for September 2025

The closing date for applications for admission in September 2025 is 31st October 2024. All applications are processed in line with our Determined Admission Criteria.

If you are applying for a place for your child in Saint Bede’s Catholic High School on faith grounds please complete this form in addition to the Common Application Form available online or issued by the Local Authority

This supplementary information form will assist the Governors of the school in deciding whether your child qualifies for a place. Failure to complete the form may affect where your child is placed within the selection criteria.

 

IMPORTANT: This Supplementary Information Form is NOT an Application Form but MUST be completed and returned to Saint Bede’s by 31st October 2024. Please ensure that you ALSO complete the online Admission to Secondary Schools September 2024 Common Application Form issued by your local authority by 31st October 2024.

A) FOR PUPILS RESIDENT IN THE AREA ADMINISTERED BY LANCASHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL A paper copy may be obtained from the Area Education Office (Telephone: 01524 – 581148) for those who do not have internet access. This should be returned to your child’s primary school.

B) FOR PUPILS RESIDENT IN THE AREA ADMINISTERED BY BLACKPOOL BOROUGH COUNCIL A paper copy may be obtained from Blackpool Education Office (01253 476829) for those who do not have internet access. This should be returned to your child’s primary school.

We prioritise applications received on time and a late application may reduce your chance of getting a place at this school.

Year 7 (waiting list) applications prior to January

If we are oversubscribed, children who are not admitted can be placed on a waiting list. The children on this waiting list will be ranked using the admissions criteria from our admissions policy. Late applicants will be slotted into the list according to the extent to which they meet the criteria. Thus it is possible to move down the list as well as up. For example a child who moves into the area may have a higher priority than one who has been on the waiting list for some time. If a place becomes available, the child whose name is at the top of the list will be offered a place. This is not dependent on whether an appeal has been submitted.

Please send both completed forms to admissions@stbedeslytham.lancs.sch.uk along with faith evidence if applicable. Once we have received both these forms and along with any evidence we required we will respond with the outcome within 10 school days.

You will receive a response within 10 school days. If your application is rejected because the year group requested is full your child will be placed on a waiting list (as described above)

Where we are unable to offer a place because the school is oversubscribed, parents have the right to appeal to an independent admission appeal panel.

If your child is a Looked After Child and or has an Education Healthcare plan (EHCP) please contact Pupil Access in the first instance.
