To commemorate Remembrance Sunday Mrs Smith uploaded several of the Royal British Legion resources that commemorate 100 years of Remembrance Sunday, for pupils to watch in form times and Citizenship this week.
On Wednesday 10th November, our Year 9s commemorated Armistice Day with a Mass for Peace. Several of our local decorated veterans were invited to attend to join with us and represent local service men and women from all the Armed Forces who have lost their lives or who have been injured in conflicts from World War I up to more recent times. In processions, the Standard Bearer from each battalion represents soldiers and families from each battallion who cannot attend; our procession was led by a Standard Bearer for the first time this year.
In a reception that followed, a small group of our Year 11 pupils who hope to pursue a career in the Armed Services were given the opportunity to chat with the veterans so they could learn about their experiences of service in the forces and pose any burning questions they have about their future direction. The histories were both fascinating and motivational and hopefully our pupils will have gained a greater understanding of the expectations on them and clarity about their future direction.
