Mr Townson, who has managed the team throughout, said “The boys played exceptionally well and I’m extremely proud! They kept their cool when they came up against some very tough opponents and it was brilliant to see them win. All the early morning getups and practices before school have obviously paid off. Well done!”

Giuseppe talked about who would be eligible (any Bede could apply), the application process, his course of study and inevitably, the great social life at university! He finished by encouraging all pupils to do their absolute best in their studies at Saint Bede's, before answering questions from Year 11s who were keen to know more. Several pupils described the experience as "very interesting and useful.” All the pupils involved agreed that it was an inspiring experience and they represented their year group exceptionally well through their keen interest.

Year 11 were also given some key advice and encouragement at the end of the half-term when Mike Conlon visited the school to deliver a session on study skills. He gave pupils advice on revision techniques, organisation, time management and the best environment to work in. Mike also delivered a session to Year 10 and parents of both year groups.

Our Year 7 pupils travelled to Bede’s World on Friday 2nd October for a day full of fun, friendship and new challenges. The day started bright and early at 7am when pupils headed on a coach north to Jarrow with much anticipation. On arrival, the group were greeted by the Bede’s World staff who quickly set the forms off on a number of activities including: quill writing; an Anglo-Saxon farm walk; a tour around the Bede’s museum and a hands-on experience of the daily chores that monks would have done. One of the highlights of the day was the trip to the ancient church. Pupils were given the chance to experience life as a monk by dressing in habits and processing silently through the church as Saint Bede would have done. The day was enjoyed by all and proved to be a fantastic opportunity for pupils to make new friends and bond with staff. Moreover, it was a way for everyone to gain an insight into the history of the patron of our school.

As another busy and successful year draws to a close, we say farewell and thank members of teaching staff who are leaving us. Mr Holden, Mrs Van Kraay, Miss Booth and Mrs Cavaleri have all guided, inspired and supported pupils with great commitment, enthusiasm and determination during their time with us as well as enriching the extensive extra-curricular life of the school. Each member of staff has had an enormous impact on staff and pupils alike and will be greatly missed. We also wish a very happy retirement to Mrs Palmer who has worked as a Learning Support Assistant providing dedicated and caring assistance to individual pupils and thank Mr Colacurcio for his work with the housekeeping and catering staff.

  • Fair Trade Young Chef Competition

date posted: Friday 23 Jan 2015
Ten pupils took part in this year’s Fairtrade Young Chef competition and the standard was incredibly high. This year’s winner is Paul Cross with a recipe for Chocolate Brownie and Raspberry Coulis. Eleanor Webb came in second place with a recipe for Barbeque Chicken with Mango Salsa and in third place was Hannah Burdess with a recipe for Hot Salmon Salad with Chickpea and Pomegranate and Spiced Sweet Potatoes. The Commendation Prize for the best knowledge and use of Fairtrade ingredients went to Isobel Rushton with Aromatic Pear Strudel (vegan) and Marcelina Solarska with Chocolate Banoffee Pots. All the winners received generous gift vouchers and every competitor took away some Fairtrade goodies and reward stamps for all their hard work. Thank you to Mr. Grice, Mrs. James and Mrs. Malley for helping to judge the competition and for your continued support of Fairtrade. Massive congratulations to all who took part.
